2009 - Poa Siku Kumi ya Erik, Bundu, North na Tana

Safari 10 days / 9 nights : Nairobi, Oldonyo Was, Shompole, Elementaita, Baringo and Desert Rose, Tana Delta, Nairobi.

Day 1

Depending on you arrival time, you are collected from the international airport and taken to Wilson. Relax and take a tea at the famous Aero Club of East Africa. Take off, direction Chyulu, for a 1H 10 m flight over the Machacos hills, the immense plains of Athis, the sand river of the Selengai, and arrive on the foothills of Kilimanjaro landing on the Chyulu plain. Install ourselves in a beautiful private lodge, lunch and rest. In the afternoon, we leave for a walk and a drive in this private reserve. I will explain about the complex migration routes of the Elephant. Sundowner on a spectacular rock outcrop with a sublime view, night drive back to the lodge in time for dinner, and night..

Day 2

Wake early with a hot drink, and Take off for a 1hr 20 min flight full of surprises . Along Kilimanjaro’s peaks ! Upon landing at the bush airstrip , a picnic breakfast in the middle of the wild awaits. If you are a rider, the horses can take us for a superb hack through the bush .Otherwise you can take a drive in 4x4 in the chyulu Hills. Lunch at the Lodge. After a short siesta, take off for the most spectacular flight. A short time after take off we overfly the marshes of Amboseli not visible by road. . Amboseli is totally different to other parks, the omnipresence of the largest mountain in Africa, which provides a superb backdrop for any photograph, the beautiful light giving a clearness and depth. The seasonal dry soda lake provides mirages and tornadoes lending the elephants a surreal appearance. Passing over the Amboseli planes and the Namanga mountain. Over the inaccessible Eastern part of the Great rift Valley, great cliffs and the sublime colours of Lake Natron, where you won’t believe your eyes. The incredible alkaline waters provide an amazing variety of avifauna.. Pelican and flamingos. Land on a salt flat in the middle of the Great Rift Valley. Transfer to Shopmpole lodge and the impressive rooms , each of which has a water feature for you to take advantage of during the heat of the day.Around 16.30, leave for a game drive along the shores of lake Natron, and take a sundowner in this lunar lakescape. Return to the lodge for dinner. After you can take a night game drive where you might see striped Hyena and the nocturnal cats. Night at the Lodge.

Day 3

Wake up with a hot drink of your choice. Leave for an early morning drive into the Ewaso Ngiro delta. The only river which flows into Lake Natron.Fantastic scenery, we will take our breakfast in the bush. Return to the lodge towards midday, and enjoy the cool atmosphere. Lunch at the Lodge. Later in the afternoon, take off for a special flight over Natron and if we are luky, we would see Oldonyio Lengai volcano, where masai’s god is living !!! Until sunset gives off its beautiful light. After landing, we take an evening sundowner, returning to the lodge for dinner. After a night drive. Night at lodge.

Day 4

Wake up with the early morning birds, and a hot drink, in bed. Drive to the airstrip for an morning flight over Lake Naton, while the light is at its best. Upon landing, a short game drive with breakfast. Return to the lodge for a rest and lunch. In the afternoon, a superb 1hr30 flight right through the centre of the Rift Valley, passing over Lake Magadi, the cliffs of the Eastern fold, the spectacular volcanoes of Longonot and Suswa Passing over Lake Naivasha, Elementaita and myriads of pink flamingo .Land not far from the private reserve of Elementaita. Transfer to a small cozy lodge, with charming views. Settle into your room, dinner and night at lodge.

Day 5

Early morning wake up for a great surprise, a Hot air balloon ride.. Discover this amazing flight in the middle of the Rift Valley, upon landing we take a stylish brunch in the middle of the bush. At the end of the morning, return to the Lodge by 4x4 game driving through this private game sanctuary. Take off for a 45 min flight to Nanuki. If weather permits, we will fly over the Abadare mountains, over 10,000 feet high valleys where waterfalls cascade into fantastic rivers through bamboo forest and moorland. We stop for fuel and take a light lunch on the terrace of the small restaurant of the airfield witch is at 2.200 meters hight, not far from Mount Kenya’s foot. Take off for a beautiful hour’s flight to Lake Baringo, with an aeriel view of Lake Bogoria, her masses of pink flamingos and volcanic hot springs of steam. Land on the Lake shore, and transfer by boat to Samatian Island. Settle into this small lovely lodge, a short rest, and towards evening take a lake trip to explore and enjoy the incredible variety of birdlife. Sundowner on the boat, return to the lodge for dinner and the night.

Day 6

Wake up with a hot drink. , and leave for an early morning boat trip to the river at the North end of Lake Baringo, where we visit a pokot village, who enjoy sharing their cultural traditions. On our return we can take this opportunity to travel in a silent canoe , a brilliant way of approaching birds and crocodile!!!. In the course of the morning, return to the lodge for a brunch, rest and in the afternoon return to the plane for and amazing one hour flight to Kowop. Incredible scenery, our wings will take us all along the spectacular Suguta valley, Silali volcano and more, I will say no more. We land in the middle of the bush at the base of Mt Nyiru, land of the Samburu, far from anything. Here a 4x4 awaits to take you up the steep mountain track where 4 wheel drive proves itself, driving up into the heart of the sacred mountain, it’s belived as Samburu god’s house. We find a small charming lodge tucked on the side of the mountain. Sundowners in the pool, dinner and night at the lodge.

Day 7

Breakfast in this sublime place, and drive down to the plane for an amazing aerial excursion . One more journey of discovery and emotion at the south end of Lake Turkana and her Volcanoes, Naboyetom, and Teliki, where the Earth shows you her true colours and power. To crown this flight we’ll pass over Lake Logipi, the lowest point in the Rift Valley, with her amazing variety of alkaline colours and flamingos. (If conditions permit we might land on South Island, a black lava volcano in the South End of Lake Turkana, the Jade Sea . Here we might take a pic nic lunch on the islands Lake shore.) Return flight to Mt Nyiru for the incredible 4x4 steep drive up to the lodge, for a surprise lunch in the middle of the bush, a pic nic spot tucked next to the mountain stream, where conditions permitting you can try the granite rock water slide. Later in the afternoon, you can take a short walk to a superb sundowner spot. Dinner by candles, night at the lodge.

Day 8

After breakfast, drive back to the plane for another amazing 1hr 20 min flight to Nanuki to refuel. Take off again for a 2hr 20 min flight to the Indian Ocean travelling past Mt Kenya, over the immense Tsavo Plateau and following the Tana River, up into its delta, and landing on a strip in the middle of the delta. Transfer by car and boat to this small charming lodge made with palm fronds situated on the sand dunes facing the sea. Lunch and rest on the deserted beach. Sundowners on the dunes, dinner and night at the lodge.

Day 9

After breakfast, depending on the tides, go for a motorized canoe trip into the backwaters of the delta where the little lodge is actively involve to protect this unique biodiversity, rich in wildlife, birdlife and high concentration of hippos ! Scenery to take your breath away. Your presence is vital to preserve this community based sanctuary. Return to the dunes for lunch, and afternoon to enjoy the deserted beach.

Day 10

Wake up at any time with a drink of your choice.. Breakfast in the atmosphere of meditation, and according to your departure time, enjoy the desert and wild beach, then return to the plane for the flight back to Nairobi. Landing at Wilson, relax at the Aero Club until its time to taxi to the International airport for your flight home. Souvenirs of unforgettable memories in your head
